A photographic survey was carried out of a proof butts, consisting of a concrete built, three walled rectangular structure surrounded by a bank of earth. Three stepped internal walls divided the structure into four bays. To the south-east was a linear shaped firing range. The building was part of the military base at Woolwich Arsenal and used shell practice. To the east of the proof butts were the remains of the proof butts wall, with a surviving pier at the northern end.
