Following the completion of the MoLAS evaluation at Roman Road E3, in which several phases of Roman domestic building were identified, MoLAS and the LAARC welcomed children from a nearby school (Old Ford Primary School) to an Open Day on behalf of the developers Toynbee Housing Association and Quadrillion Construction.
The class contained 25 eager children, who are currently studying the Romans, waiting to get their hands on some Roman artefacts. They were given a brief overview of the site and shown some fragments of pottery that had been dug up, as well as a Roman coin excavated as they arrived! They also handled Roman tiles with animal paw prints, and several different forms of Roman pottery, including a stamped Samian bowl and a stamped amphora handle.
Johanna Vuolteenaho talked about some of the finds from the site and assisted with the burial of a contemporary timecapsule which was filled by the children. The event was covered in the local newspaper as well.
